Our Story

FASHINFIDELITY is your 3-in-1 platform for content, community, and consultancy services in sustainable fashion. Proudly Malaysian at heart, we champion Southeast Asian perspectives in shaking up the sustainability conversation within the fashion industry.

What began as a humble blog has evolved into a trusted voice in sustainable fashion advocacy, education, and actionable advice. Through our blog, we explore what it means to be a #ConscientiousFashionista, unpack some hard #WardrobeTruths, and share the #FashionEducation you actually need as part of the #SlowFashion movement. And yes, we talk about #FastFashion – but not in the way everyone else does.

When Najah launched this platform in 2018, it was born out of frustration with the shallow discourse surrounding ethical, sustainable, and eco-fashion. The articles available then barely scratched the surface of the deep-rooted issues within the industry. As an environmental engineer, Najah’s approach was to get straight to the heart of these problems, break them down, and find solutions. FASHINFIDELITY became a space to deconstruct these complexities.

Because honestly, it’s not enough to just buy organic cotton when it remains one of the thirstiest crops on the planet.
It’s not enough for businesses to finally “contribute” to garment factory safety standards after tragedies like Rana Plaza in 2013.
It’s not enough to stop at the finished product while ignoring the unchecked pollution and hazardous conditions in textile dyeing facilities and tanneries in places like India, Bangladesh, and China – issues that wouldn’t fly in Australia, the USA, or Sweden.

And it’s definitely not enough to glorify the “whiskers” and “distressed” look on jeans, when these designs demand excessive water, chemicals, and unsafe labor processes to achieve something as trivial as a trend.

Why is it that we can demand transparency about our eggs being cage-free, or our cars being fuel-efficient, but we don’t stop to ask what resources and labor went into making the T-shirt we just picked up on sale?

These are the kinds of questions Najah wanted to tackle. And FASHINFIDELITY set out to unravel the fashion supply chain, spark deeper conversations, and inspire a meaningful Call-to-Action for consumers, businesses, and brands alike. It’s always been about adding substance to the “conscious fashion” narrative.

The sustainable fashion community has grown since our early days, but with the rise of ultra-fast fashion and social media-driven overconsumption, there’s still a mountain to climb. We’re proud to have been at the forefront of this movement, firmly rooted in our Malaysian identity while advocating globally.

And rest assured – we’re not going anywhere. We’ll keep disrupting the status quo for as long as it takes.

The FF journey

2016-2018: The early days

FASHINFIDELITY’s story begins with Najah Onn’s personal mission to untangle the complex problems hidden in the fashion supply chain. While living in Perth, Australia, she set out to dissect the environmental and social footprint of every garment in her wardrobe, one piece at a time. This passion project was aptly named Deconstructing My Wardrobe – an exploration of how our clothing connects to larger global issues. You can read about how it all started here.

In 2017, Najah took a bold leap of faith. She quit her corporate job, sold all her belongings, and moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to focus on business planning for her entrepreneurial vision.

By 2018, FASHINFIDELITY was officially born. It was during this time in Malaysia that Joanne Nathaniel, a fashion graduate, discovered Najah’s work. Intrigued by Najah’s unwavering drive to spotlight sustainability within the South East Asian fashion landscape, Joanne reached out. Their shared passion for exploring the human and environmental impacts of fashion – as well as their curiosity about the local industry’s evolving awareness of these issues – sparked an immediate connection.

2020: Raising Our Profile

The year 2020 brought unexpected challenges as COVID-19 lockdowns left Najah stranded in Melbourne, Australia, where her family resides. Determined to keep FASHINFIDELITY thriving and its critical messages reaching the world, Najah turned to Joanne Nathaniel for support.

Although their paths had crossed back in 2018, it wasn’t until this pivotal moment in 2020 that Joanne officially joined FASHINFIDELITY as its first hire. Together, they worked on amplifying the platform’s message through branding, social media, and content creation. This collaboration marked a turning point in FASHINFIDELITY’s journey, as they refined the brand and expanded its reach, weaving purpose, creativity, and advocacy into every part of their work.

While navigating life in Melbourne, Najah balanced part-time work with her mission to advocate for sustainable fashion. She actively collaborated with clients in Malaysia, delivering webinars, creating educational content, and offering training in environmental and social governance (ESG) – all through virtual platforms. Despite the physical distance, the momentum of FASHINFIDELITY only grew stronger, proving that passion and purpose know no boundaries.

2020-2024: Trust and followers

Over the past four years, our presence on Instagram has grown into something truly special. Through conscientious, thought-provoking content, FASHINFIDELITY has earned a remarkable level of trust within the sustainable fashion community. Our voice resonates with those who seek more than surface-level conversations – it’s about inspiring change and driving awareness.

Today, FASHINFIDELITY serves a primarily Malaysian audience, making up 57% of our following. Beyond that, 9% of our community is based in Indonesia, 7.8% in the USA, 7.2% in Singapore, and 5.9% in Australia, with the remainder spread across the UK and other parts of the world. This truly global audience reflects the relevance of our work across borders.

Our content has also achieved outstanding engagement. In the last two years, our top 45 posts (including Reels) recorded an engagement rate by reach of 6.6% – far surpassing industry averages for Fashion and News & Media. Our lifetime engagement average stands at 2.77%, a testament to the value our audience places on our message.

We proudly identify as a News and Media Service on our largest platforms, Instagram and Facebook, continuing to amplify the stories, insights, and calls-to-action that define the heart of FASHINFIDELITY.

Looking ahead

In 2025, FASHINFIDELITY aims to broaden its horizons beyond News, Content, and Media to include Community Building, Consultancy, and Advisory services – all with the goal of achieving sustainable financial outcomes while driving meaningful impact.

A major milestone will be the launch of our revamped website, featuring an Online Platform with a dedicated Community Builder function, set to debut in mid-2025. This platform, #FFCollective, will foster collaboration, dialogue, and action among individuals and organisations passionate about reimagining sustainability in fashion.

We are excited to deepen our engagement with the Southeast Asian community, working together to disrupt the status quo and inspire change. Rooted in the age-old wisdom of our rich culture and heritage, we believe this collective knowledge holds the power to shape a fairer, more sustainable fashion industry in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, and beyond.
